Double homicide in Mirandola, son arrested: mother and stepfather beheaded in home
Daniele Tavoni, 54, is accused of the murder of Vincenza Giannini, 74, and her partner Pietro Ferdinando Casari, 82. The bodies were found bound and beheaded in a house in Mirandola.

Arrest for double homicide
According to corrieredibologna.corriere.it, Daniele Tavoni, 54, has been arrested on suspicion of having killed his mother Vincenza Giannini, 74, and her partner Pietro Ferdinando Casari, 82. The tragedy occurred on Thursday in their home at via Imperiale 10, in the industrial area of Mirandola. At approximately 19:30, a neighbour alerted the emergency services; officers from Mirandola Police Station found the lifeless bodies with evident signs of violence, and the house in disarray.
The two were lying on the ground, bound and beheaded. In an adjoining building, where Tavoni lived, blood-stained knives were found. When investigators arrived at the scene, the man was in the courtyard smoking a cigarette; throughout the duration of the survey work he remained seated in a catatonic state. The man was interrogated at length but gave no answers to any questions. At six in the morning he was formally arrested and taken to Sant'Anna prison, where he will have to answer for aggravated double homicide.
Tavoni's history
Tavoni had lived for some years in a small house next to his mother's, on the same via Imperiale. He had moved there from San Felice following his separation from his partner, with whom he had a son now in his thirties. For some time he had been without stable employment and carried out occasional work. According to reports, he had been followed by the mental health centre in 2018, but had subsequently abandoned his course of treatment.
At the time of arrest he was not receiving medical treatment. The mayor of Mirandola, Letizia Budri, confirmed that "we never received reports that warranted further investigation". However, those who knew the family describe a complex family situation. A colleague of the mother, who had worked with Vincenza Giannini for 30 years at the biomedical company Haemotronic, reported: "Mother and son lived in symbiosis". The woman was very concerned about her son's financial difficulties, a great emotional burden for her.
The motive still unclear
The investigative hypothesis at present is that a family argument escalated into the brutal double murder. It cannot be ruled out that the homicide may have occurred the day before the discovery, since Pietro Ferdinando Casari attended the day centre in Mirandola and on Thursday morning had not left the house. The investigation is being conducted by prosecutor Marco Niccolini. In the coming hours a preliminary interrogation is scheduled; the prosecution will request the judge to validate the arrest. The exact motive remains unclear at present.
