Femicide of Lorena Isceri in Florence: one hour of terror, cable ties in the SUV and the SMS to the victim's mother
Federico Vella killed Lorena Isceri and then took his own life. The victim was afraid of him but did not want to report him.
The femicide of Lorena Isceri: the filmed negotiation and items found in the car
According to reports in Repubblica, a police officer attempted for approximately one hour to stop Federico Vella before the femicide of Lorena Isceri took place in Florence. A colleague accompanying her recorded everything with a body camera: the video clearly shows the negotiation, with the police officer repeatedly telling the man not to approach and to abandon his plan.
"I am begging you, don't throw yourself," the police officer says to Vella. "Do not come near." He responds: "Shoot me, that would be the greatest gesture of love." The woman continues to negotiate: "I've called your mum, don't worry, I'm asking you for a favour. I asked you to come only to this other side, at least come here." And further: "It's not true that we have it out for you, nobody has it out for you." The police officer stated: "I was thinking only one thing: if I save him, then I also save her."
The attempt was not enough. Lorena Isceri died after being thrown from a bridge onto the A1 motorway. An autopsy will need to determine whether the woman died before or after impact with the ground. Vella took his own life shortly after.
Items found in the car: premeditation
During subsequent investigations, police found in Vella's car, parked in front of his ex's house, a bag containing cable ties — likely the same ones used to bind her hands and feet and lock her in the SUV's boot — along with a pair of scissors and a long sheet. Investigators believe the man premeditated everything.
The SMS to the victim's mother and fear of reporting
Before taking his own life, Vella sent a message to Lorena Isceri's mother: "Your daughter is dead." On social media he had written shortly before: "I will be yours even if I can never be so again."
People who knew Lorena reported that the woman was afraid of Vella, but feared ruining him and for this reason had not wanted to file a report. "She was afraid of him but feared ruining him," said someone close to the victim, according to Repubblica.
