According to reports from Google News IT — Crime, the Border Police of the province of Cuneo concluded August with a significant operational report along the Italian-French border area, patrolled by the Col di Tenda, Colle della Maddalena, Colle della Lombarda and Colle dell'Agnello mountain passes, as well as at Cuneo-Levaldigi Airport.
During the month, 444 people were identified and 353 vehicles were inspected. Particular attention was devoted to the railway station at Limone Piemonte, where officers inspected 46 trains in transit from France.
Two arrests on railway trains
On two separate occasions, officers arrested two foreign nationals found aboard trains coming from France. Both had already been subject to an expulsion order from Italy and were attempting to illegally re-enter the national territory in violation of the Consolidated Immigration Act.
The control plan was implemented pursuant to directives from the director of the First Border Police Zone for Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta and Liguria, Michele Sole, and the police chief of the province of Cuneo, Rosanna Minucci.
Charges at Levaldigi airport
Activity was also intense at the Cuneo-Levaldigi Air Border Police Post, where in August 37 aircraft departing from or arriving from non-Schengen countries were inspected. In this context, two people were charged in a state of liberty.
The first subject was charged with aggravated vandalism: upon being informed of the impossibility of boarding due to overbooking, he had reacted by damaging some airport property.
The second was reported after presenting an Italian identity card with evident signs of alteration. The document had been scraped in correspondence with the microchip, with an apparent modification intended to render it unusable for identification purposes.
Surveillance maintained during the tourist period
The Border Police emphasised that control activity enabled the maintenance of constant surveillance even during the period of peak tourist traffic, ensuring safety for citizens and travellers at the main transit points of the province.
