Poggi parents: "Stasi is the culprit". New investigation and media fatigue
The parents of Chiara Poggi reiterate their condemnation of Stasi after 19 years, but admit to being worn down by media attention linked to the reopening of the investigation against Andrea Sempio.

Parents confirm: Stasi guilty of Chiara's death
According to Il Fatto Quotidiano - Cronaca, Giuseppe Poggi and Rita Preda, parents of Chiara who was killed in Garlasco on 13 August 2007, reiterated in an interview on Verissimo on Channel 5 their conviction that Alberto Stasi is responsible for their daughter's murder. "There have been five trials, there have been appeals: for us the culprit is Stasi," they declared. The 2015 verdict had recognised Stasi as the sole culprit.
The Poggi couple also expressed themselves on the possible reopening of the case: "If then there should be another culprit we will take note of it," the young woman's mother clarified. This openness comes as the investigation is expanding towards 38-year-old Andrea Sempio, against whom the Pavia Public Prosecutor's Office would appear to be drafting a request for committal to trial after 19 years from the crime.
Media siege and parents' fatigue
The couple has however expressed profound exhaustion at the media furore surrounding the reopening of the investigation. "In one of these last few days I counted seven television programmes talking about this case," Rita Preda recounted to Silvia Toffanin. "I cannot take it, I am tired and cannot continue like this. It seems that only Garlasco exists as a news story."
The situation has become so pressing that the Garlasco municipality has had to ban the entry of non-residents into the street where they lived in order to avoid the siege of journalists. The parents emphasised that at the centre of their concern is Chiara's right to rest in peace after nearly two decades of public trial.
The compensation issue and relations with Stasi
Regarding the controversy raised on the Internet about the compensation paid by Stasi to the Poggi family, the couple clarified that they are willing to return the sum should justice order it. "If we have to return it we will return it: there is a current account in the names of all three of us, us and our son. The money is there," they explained.
Giuseppe Poggi furthermore expressed doubts about the possibility of a future meeting with Stasi and his mother. "No one has ever asked us but I do not believe this is the time to meet him," he stated, recalling that in the early years of the investigation Stasi would go to the cemetery with the family to visit Chiara. Relations broke off when the Public Prosecutor's Office began investigating him, partly for reasons of propriety.
