Man attacks partner with knife, 72-year-old held in Velletri prison
According to ANSA Cronaca, a 72-year-old man was arrested by the Carabinieri in Labico, in the province of Rome, on the serious charge of attempted aggravated homicide against his live-in partner, a 68-year-old woman.
The assault took place on Sunday morning, at the height of a quarrel that broke out without apparent reason. The man first attempted to strangle the woman, then struck her with a knife, inflicting serious wounds to her face.
The victim managed to take refuge in a room of the house, from where she alerted her partner's daughter and the emergency number 112. Carabinieri from the operational and mobile unit of the Colleferro Company arrived on the scene and restrained the 72-year-old. The man admitted responsibility for his actions.
The woman was urgently transported to Palestrina hospital, but her condition proved more serious than initially thought. She was therefore transferred to Umberto I polyclinic in Rome, where she remains hospitalised in guarded condition.
Following the investigation, the house, mobile phones and the knife used in the assault were seized. The 72-year-old was transferred to Velletri prison, where he awaits authorisation from the judicial authority pending validation by the investigating judge.
