A 46-year-old man was killed on Friday afternoon in Boscotrecase, a town in the Naples area at the foot of Vesuvius. According to metropolisweb.it, the victim was struck by at least one gunshot in the via Tenente Cirillo area, on the border with Boscoreale, before reaching his home at corso Umberto I 202, where he died.
The victim's details were released in the late afternoon: he was Salvatore Solimeno, already known to law enforcement. The bullet reportedly severed the femoral artery, according to initial information released by the Carabinieri.
The search and the suspect's surrender
In the hours immediately following the homicide, carabinieri from the Rapid Response Unit of the Campania Regiment raided the home where the main suspect resided. The operation was unsuccessful: the military personnel found the apartment empty. The search continued at a brisk pace until, in the evening, the man presented himself voluntarily at the police station. According to information released by the Carabinieri, the suspect will be questioned and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Torre Annunziata for decisions on the matter.
Panic amongst residents, area cordoned off
The sound of gunfire sent residents of via Tenente Cirillo and nearby streets into panic. Within minutes the emergency operations centre received initial reports, and the area was reached by carabinieri from the Torre Annunziata Company and agents from the Municipal Police, who cordoned off the area and diverted traffic. Emergency ambulances from the 118 service also arrived as a precaution.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive for the homicide.
