Turin Colapietro homicide: confessed perpetrator recounts days of drug use before fatal brawl
Matheus de Oliveira has confessed to the judge the circumstances of the crime: days of drug consumption in the flat, then a quarrel and the death of Fabio Colapietro.
Interrogation of confessed perpetrator: "Locked inside for days using drugs"
The breakthrough in the homicide of Fabio Colapietro emerged on Saturday 26 September during the validation hearing of the arrest of Matheus de Oliveira, 26 years old, held before judge Antonio Borretta. According to virgilio.it, the confessed perpetrator — assisted by lawyer Wilmer Perga — reconstructed the facts that led to Colapietro's death, whose body had been found dismembered in the flat of Professor Nicole Formichetti, at Via Gulli 46 in Turin.
De Oliveira stated that he, the victim, 22-year-old Keith Butig and the 47-year-old teacher were in the latter's flat "for several days", all engaged in "using multiple drugs". It all supposedly began on 20 September, approximately four days before the call to 112 and the discovery of the body.
The night of the crime and the motive
Colapietro allegedly arrived at the flat having been called to deliver drugs intended for consumption — "Md, php, crack, hallucinogenic mushrooms, cannabis, spirits", according to lawyer Perga citing Corriere della Sera. The victim allegedly then chose to stay and participate in the gathering with the others present.
During the night between 21 and 22 September the situation allegedly escalated. Colapietro allegedly left to obtain more drugs from a dealer, then returned to Via Gulli. At that moment de Oliveira was asleep: upon waking he allegedly discovered a quarrel had broken out. "They told me that Fabio had tried to steal money from me while I was sleeping", the 26-year-old told the judge, according to Torino Today. This allegedly was the motive for the struggle.
It was Colapietro who came off worst. When the victim stopped showing signs of life, those present allegedly attempted to resuscitate him "for two hours with chest compressions", without success.
Attempted concealment of the body
Once death was established, the three allegedly planned the concealment of the body. Having left the flat, they allegedly obtained bags, quick-setting cement and sheeting. "We wanted to throw the remains in the river", de Oliveira told the judge.
Keith Butig, an Italian-Filipino 22-year-old, instead denied taking part in the homicide or the dismemberment. "I locked myself in another room, I only came out to buy some bags. Then I left and wandered around for a day and a half before returning home", she stated according to Corriere della Sera.
The positions of those under investigation
Matheus de Oliveira was arrested on charges of homicide and suppression of a corpse. Keith "Sara" Butig and Nicole Formichetti are instead facing charges of conspiracy to suppress a corpse.
The professor, assisted by lawyers Chiara Romano and Alessandro Bellina, exercised her right to remain silent. According to residents and investigators, the 47-year-old — originally from Rieti — had never taken up service at the school in Ciriè where she was registered as a teacher, due to personal problems. Investigators are still working to reconstruct all the phases of the crime.
