Turin murder: arrested man's mother says "He called 112 himself, he was saying confused things"
The mother of Christian Matheus De Oliveira Morando recounts how her son contacted the police directly after the crime. The body of Fabio Colapietro, 39 years old, was found in pieces in an apartment in the northern suburbs of Turin.

"He was the one who called the police from his own phone, it wasn't me like you're putting in the newspapers." With these words, reported by Il Fatto Quotidiano — Cronaca, the mother of Christian Matheus De Oliveira Morando reconstructed to journalists — through the intercom of her own home — the moments in which she spoke with her son on the evening of the previous Thursday.
According to her account, the 26-year-old now detained for the murder of Fabio Colapietro told her the area where he was located without, however, communicating to her the precise address of the apartment where the victim's body would later be found. "He told me to go to the Rebaudengo area and I found him in Piazza Rebaudengo," the woman explained, adding that she then urged him to contact the police.

At that point the young man allegedly called 112 directly, but with evident difficulties communicating. "But when he spoke to 112, he was speaking very agitatedly, it was hard to understand," his mother reported. The operators allegedly asked if there was someone next to him; the boy reportedly answered that his mother was there, then passing her the phone.
"I spoke, saying: come here, because my son has hurt someone," the woman stated. When the operators asked what had happened, her response had been: "What? I don't know, come and ask him directly."
"I didn't understand, he was distraught"
The mother stressed that she had not grasped the gravity of events at that moment. "He told me very confused things: that he was desperate, he kept crying, saying things… he was distraught, so I didn't understand." She had, however, sensed that something serious had happened. "It made clear that something very serious had happened, but I told him that he had to call the police and had to do the right thing, that's all," she added.
She then left it to investigators to clarify matters: "I also told the police to come and take him and ask him, and that's what they did."
Distance from her son's social circle
The woman also distanced herself from her son's social context. "I don't know, I don't know any of the people he spends time with. I spend time with completely different people," she stated, clarifying that the boy had not been living with her for some time.
The case: body found in pieces in northern suburbs
Christian Matheus De Oliveira Morando is accused of the murder of Fabio Colapietro, 39 years old, whose body was found in pieces in a flat in the northern suburbs of Turin. Together with the 26-year-old, a 22-year-old girl and a 46-year-old woman — the latter a teacher — were also detained, facing charges of aiding and abetting and complicity in the concealment of a body.
Among the investigative hypotheses is one that the victim — on whose body signs of violence were found — was killed during a quarrel related to crack cocaine.
