Abduction for extortion purposes in Bologna province, three in custody

A 23-year-old man was kidnapped, immobilised and transported to a farmhouse undergoing renovation in the countryside of San Lazzaro di Savena, in the Bologna province. As reported by Google News IT — Crime (it), police freed the victim and arrested the three persons responsible on charges of kidnapping.

According to the reconstruction by the mobile squad, the kidnappers — a 23-year-old of Moldovan origin and two Italians, one of whom is a minor — allegedly restrained the victim's hands and feet with cable ties, made him wear a balaclava and took him to the farmhouse. The motive was extortion: the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 26,000 euros. The entire incident is linked to a context involving drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The alarm was raised by the 23-year-old's girlfriend and a friend, who maintained contact with the imprisoned young man through a messaging app. To organise the liberation operation, investigators arranged for the delivery of a backpack containing one kilogramme of hashish and several thousand euros as a "simulated ransom".

During the hours of captivity, the 23-year-old attempted to free himself from the cable ties. In attempting to leave the farmhouse, he allegedly grabbed a machete found on the ground, threatening two of the three kidnappers, but they blocked him and attacked him. The victim sustained injuries with a prognosis of 31 days.

The investigation was conducted by the mobile squad, coordinated by the ordinary prosecutor's office and that of minors, given the presence of a minor defendant among those responsible.
