Three fatal stab wounds: Lorenzo Cristea died in one minute, trial in Treviso

Killing at Baita al Lago: expert reconstructs death of Lorenzo Cristea
Lorenzo Cristea, a twenty-year-old from Trebaseleghe, died in less than a minute on the night of 3 May 2025, struck by three cuts to the chest near Baita al Lago. This was reported by tribunatreviso.it, citing the testimony of forensic doctor Alberto Furlanetto, a Treviso pathologist called to give evidence during the third hearing of the trial at Treviso court.
Furlanetto explained that Cristea was struck twice in the lungs and once in the heart, with the latter wound proving decisive: the blade severed the aorta, causing massive internal bleeding that made any intervention impossible. Even immediate assistance would not have been able to save the young man from that wound. The two stab wounds to the lungs would have instead left open, in theory, a small window of survival in the case of very rapid medical intervention. The desperate rush to Castelfranco hospital served no purpose.
An autopsy also revealed a fourth cut to the victim's right hand, classified by the expert as a defensive wound, with no fatal consequences. Toxicological tests established that Cristea had a blood alcohol content of 1.3 grammes per litre of blood at the time of the tragedy.
The accused and defence arguments
On trial are Badr Rouaji, assisted by lawyer Fabio Crea, and Taha Bennani, defended by lawyers Paola Miotti and Fabio Targa. The two young men of Moroccan origin are accused of Cristea's murder, as well as attempted murder and grievous bodily harm against the victim's friends.
The hearing also focused on the compatibility of the wounds with the folding knife seized by the carabinieri minutes after the crime. The positions of the defence lawyers are markedly divergent. Lawyer Crea stressed that "Furlanetto's statements confirmed the compatibility of the fatal wounds with the blade of the seized knife, on which there are no genetic traces of my client Badr, but of other individuals", adding as a significant element "the absence of blood traces on his clothing".
Lawyer Targa took the opposite view, highlighting how from the testimony of the forensic doctor "it became clear the full compatibility of the movement from bottom to top, which Badr makes — as emerges from the video viewed in court — with the three blows to the chest of the murdered boy".
The victim's friends also wounded
The hearing also dealt with the injuries sustained by Emanuele Biliato and Alessandro Bortolami, friends of Cristea and co-defendants for brawling. Biliato suffered a single cut to the right shoulder blade, struck from behind; Bortolami was struck with four stab wounds to the chest and flanks, fortunately not very deep.
The trial will resume in court in October.
