Assaults on Luxembourg lawyers: the Diekirch Bar expresses outrage
On 12 June, a curator was stabbed in Ettelbruck by a 53-year-old individual. The professional, who had survived her serious injuries, was managing her aggressor's bankruptcy on behalf of the district court of Diekirch.
Last Friday, the general assembly of the local Bar reaffirmed its unreserved support for colleagues affected by violence. The leaders made it known that the incident in spring, although exceptional in its severity, formed part of a broader trend. According to a text published by Le Quotidien, legal practitioners invested with official duties — curators tasked with bankruptcies or administrators of protective measures for adults — report recurring threats, insults and physical assaults in the course of their duties.
The Council of the Order firmly denounced these outrages. It emphasised that the peace and security of lawyers represents a fundamental pillar for the fair functioning of justice, the safeguarding of defence rights and the credibility of institutions in the public eye. The body wishes for criminal prosecution to be commensurate with these offences. A fruitful discussion was conducted with the magistrate presiding over the district court of Diekirch as well as with the general prosecutor's office.
