Luxembourg's criminal court has sanctioned five police officers for violence inflicted on a detainee and for concealing these acts.

Luxembourg's district court, sitting in criminal matters, has tried several officers from the former railway station police post for brutal acts committed in 2023. In total, five officials have received custodial sentences and fines.
The incident occurred on 20 May 2023 in the evening. A man detained in the CR3 police station premises was beaten by a 36-year-old officer. The victim, named Fernando, sustained blows to the face and chest, which resulted in him being unable to work for two weeks in total. His injuries notably included damage to an eye and ribs.
Four colleagues of the main officer charged were found guilty of concealing this violence. A newly recruited officer who witnessed the events was forced by his superior to draft a report presenting the police officers in a favourable light. This same recruit eventually revealed these practices, also reporting mistreatment and abuse inflicted on both new officers and arrested persons.
The judges imposed custodial sentences of two and three years, with or without suspension. Financial penalties of 2,000 and 5,000 euros supplemented these decisions. In related cases, the superior was acquitted in one matter and convicted to two years with full suspension and a 2,000 euro fine in another. The person who inflicted the blows was discharged in one of the ancillary proceedings, whilst another participant received a supplementary sentence of six months with full suspension and a fine of 1,000 euros.
