According to Le Quotidien, police were alerted on Tuesday at around 21:30 to a case of financial fraud committed against a woman living on rue du Travail in Luxembourg-Beggen.

Malicious individuals contacted the victim by telephone, posing as employees of her banking institution. After gaining her trust, they informed her that a courier would call at her home to collect her bank cards for verification or replacement purposes.

Shortly afterwards, a man duly arrived at her home and took away several cards. "After the victim had her cards blocked, it emerged that several cash withdrawals and unauthorised transfers had already been made," the authorities state.

As part of the investigation, part of the transferred funds was identified and seized on 14 October. A search of the home of the holder of the destination account enabled police to recover electronic devices as well as cash.

On the order of the public prosecutor, the suspect was arrested for alleged fraud and money laundering, then referred to an investigating judge on 15 October. The investigation is continuing.
