Luxembourg's health insurance body has alerted the public to a fraud scheme involving work stoppages ordered online without visiting a doctor. A list of unrecognised practitioners has been circulated, according to Le Quotidien.
In its statement of 25 June 2026, the National Health Fund clarifies that any medical document acquired online without direct contact with a doctor or issued by an unknown practitioner will be rejected. No benefits will be paid and the employer will be notified.
Users of these fraudulent documents face penalties in addition to disciplinary problems at work. A fine of up to 500 euros, and 750 euros in case of reoffence, is envisaged. The manufacture of forged certificates, prescriptions or invoices is a criminal offence heavily punished.
Thirteen names of fake healthcare practitioners, described as "unknown as of 22 June", have been made public. These checks aim to protect the fairness of the health system, combat fraud and direct resources towards those who genuinely need them.
The institution reminds that judgements have already been handed down recently, with significant financial convictions and custodial sentences, with or without suspension.
