The scandal shaking the Directorate General for Immigration (DGI) has come to light. The Interior Minister, Léon Gloden, confirmed during an RTL broadcast that the administration had itself alerted the Public Prosecutor at the beginning of 2023. This revelation, reported by Le Quotidien, coincides with the announcement of an internal inspection within the service.
Electronic messages denouncing irregularities reportedly prompted the directorate to refer the matter to the magistrates. The investigation began six months later. Since then, investigators have conducted twenty-seven searches, some of them recently.
In the course of the current year, a search at the DGI headquarters itself led to the dismissal of three civil servants. In total, five members of staff have already been removed. In his statement, the minister merely reported the audit without providing further details on the facts in question.
This case raises questions about the integrity of a key administration in the Grand Duchy, responsible for processing residence and asylum applications.
