A 51-year-old man, a Serbian national, is being tried for his alleged involvement in a home invasion and burglary committed in Dudelange. According to the evidence presented to the court, the accused is said to have accompanied an individual named Alexander from Trier to Luxembourg to participate in the criminal act.
The public prosecutor's representative is convinced that the defendant took part in the development of the criminal plan from beginning to end. He believes that three perpetrators were involved in this matter, no more and no less. The defendant, for his part, attempts to clear himself by invoking a version of events already heard repeatedly in other similar cases.
This defence rests on the testimony of an individual named Sasa, who claims that the defendants were recruited by a mysterious person. This instigator allegedly promised to erase a gambling debt in exchange for the commission of a burglary or robbery. The perpetrators, often arrested alone, claim not to know anything more about their mastermind and to have been informed of the mission only at the last moment.
The prosecutor was not convinced by this account. This story does not hold up, he argued, particularly as it has already been used by other thieves in previous cases. The defendants systematically attempt to minimise their role by presenting themselves as mere dupes being manipulated, with no connection to the organisation of the crime.
