A Luxembourg court has examined the case of a young man accused of killing his stepfather with dozens of knife blows on the first day of 2025 in Esch-sur-Alzette.

At the beginning of 2025, a family tragedy unfolded in Esch-sur-Alzette. On the morning of 1 January, between 11 a.m. and 11:11 a.m., a young defendant identified by the initial L. fatally attacked his stepfather with a blade. An autopsy revealed approximately forty stab wounds. The final blow struck the skull, with a penetration estimated at ten centimetres.
The case was examined on Thursday before the 12th correctional chamber of the judicial seat in the capital. Ms Lynn Frank, counsel for the defence, pleaded in favour of a lenient sentence. According to her, although the act committed is irreversible, the young man retains potential for reintegration. This position was shared by the prosecution, which requested a sentence of fifteen years' imprisonment with probation.
Throughout the proceedings, the judge demonstrated considerable compassion towards the accused, offering him several opportunities to recount the circumstances that led to this tragedy.
