A 19-year-old young man appeared before Luxembourg's criminal court for attempted murder and robberies. He seriously wounded a security guard during a theft at a shop.

A 19-year-old young man named Bongani was presented before the 9th criminal chamber of Luxembourg. He is being prosecuted for attempted murder, voluntary assault and battery, as well as aggravated theft. The incidents occurred in May 2024 and March 2025, according to the newspaper Le Quotidien.
The first case dates back to 4 May 2024. At around ten o'clock in the morning, the individual, his face concealed and cycling, burst into a petrol station located on Longwy Road. Armed with a knife, he intimidated an employee and took 350 euros. The cashier initially thought it was a joke before realising the danger.
The second, more serious episode occurred on 4 March 2025 in an electrical goods shop in the Gare district. Jawad, a security guard who had been working in this establishment for nine years, was alerted by a shop assistant to a suspicious customer. When the latter passed through the anti-theft gate, an alarm sounded. Surveillance cameras show the security guard attempting to retrieve the bags. The customer then struck Jawad in the abdomen with a blade, hitting his right abdominal aorta.
The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Emergency services and emergency surgery allowed him to survive. A forensic medical expert indicated that the wound could have been fatal. An internal haemorrhage required the extraction of 1.7 litres of blood. Jawad has not yet returned to work and believes he can no longer work in security.
Investigators arrested Bongani. He was already known for a similar robbery committed in 2022. Adopted by a family working in the medical sector, he distanced himself from his relatives in adolescence. A serious personality disorder was diagnosed in him. He stated that he had been inspired by a television programme and had used an artificial intelligence tool to obtain information on robberies. He allegedly took medication to overcome his fear.
The public prosecutor called for twelve years of imprisonment, part of which would be suspended. The charges retained include attempted murder, aggravated violence through the use of a weapon and breaking and entering. Psychiatrists emphasised an impairment of discernment and a significant risk of reoffending. The young age of the accused constitutes his only mitigating factor.
