Luxembourg police apprehended 148 people suspected of drug trafficking during the first six months of the year, with the vast majority of arrests taking place in the capital.

Luxembourg police apprehended 148 people suspected of drug trafficking during the first six months of this year, according to figures made public on Tuesday.
Among those detained between January and the end of June, 131 were apprehended in flagrante delicto. Seventeen others were arrested on the basis of warrants issued by judicial authorities.
The first half of 2026 already represents approximately two-thirds of the 216 presumed traffickers arrested over the whole of 2025. During these two years, the capital has concentrated the majority of apprehensions.
A coordinated operation conducted by law enforcement and the Customs and Excise Administration on 29 and 30 June in the Gare district in Luxembourg City resulted in eight additional arrests. The individuals concerned were subsequently presented to an investigating judge. These interventions brought the monthly total for June to 35 — the highest figure recorded since the beginning of the year.
To strengthen enforcement, police increased visible patrols in sensitive areas, intensified targeted checks and plainclothes operations, and extended opening hours at certain police stations in the capital.
Since 1 May, the Ville-Haute police station on rue du Fossé has been open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Gare/Hollerich police station had already adopted extended opening hours in late 2024.
