Rise in violent robbery in the capital
Police have observed an increase in violent robberies in the Upper Town and the railway station district. Reinforced patrols have enabled an immediate arrest.

Violent robberies have multiplied over the past several weeks in the Upper Town and in the railway station sector in Luxembourg. The summer heat appears to be favouring this phenomenon, according to observations by the authorities.
To stem this wave, uniformed and plainclothes officers were mobilised last weekend. During these operations, officers witnessed an assault directly: a piece of jewellery was snatched from a person's neck. The suspected perpetrator was apprehended on the spot. At the moment of his capture, he resisted the officers.
An accomplice, present alongside the suspected assailant without having directly participated in the robbery, was also brought to the station for identification, the police specified in a statement.
The main suspect was remanded in custody on the decision of the prosecution, then referred to an investigating magistrate.
During this prevention weekend, 34 individuals were subjected to a check. Seven of them were taken to the police station to verify their identity. The law enforcement authorities announced that this type of surveillance will be intensified in the affected areas of the capital.
