Domestic burglaries and violent theft have increased significantly between 2019 and 2025, according to statistics from the Interior Ministry.

Members of parliament André Bauler and Luc Emering have raised with the executive the issue of the progression of domestic break-ins in the Grand Duchy. Léon Gloden, Interior Minister, responded by explaining that the term "homejacking" does not correspond to any autonomous offence in criminal legislation.
However, offences of theft accompanied by threats or weapons come closest to this reality. Between 2019 and 2025, 229 procedures were opened at the national level for these two types of violation. The trend is upward: 17 cases recorded six years ago, compared to 45 in the previous year.
The items targeted by criminals are primarily cash, jewellery, prestige watches, smartphones and computers. Motor vehicles are less frequently targeted, the ministerial official indicated.
Over the entire period considered, fourteen individuals were physically harmed during these attacks, averaging two cases annually. Psychological support is made available to victims. Personalised protection solutions are furthermore being developed, covering mechanical devices (door frames, openings, enclosures) and electronic systems (sirens, cameras, motion sensors, lighting).
The minister invited the public to restrict the disclosure of personal details on social media platforms.
