Deadly brawl at the Glacis: man in his fifties remanded in custody
A 51-year-old individual has been remanded in custody following a knife fight that occurred on Tuesday evening in the Glacis district of Luxembourg City. The prosecutors' office is accusing him of attempted murder as well as aggravated violence, judicial authorities indicated on Friday.
The incident erupted near the City Sounds festival, when numerous spectators had gathered for the final concerts of the national festivities. At the junction between rue de la Faïencerie and allée Scheffer, a dispute is believed to have set two groups against each other. The confrontation is understood to have escalated when at least one blade was drawn. One of the participants was seriously wounded in the neck.
The two main suspects were apprehended by law enforcement officers that same evening. The second man identified by investigators is, for the moment, only subject to a simple verbal report, according to details provided by the public prosecutor's office. In total, two people were injured during this brawl, one of whom was in a critical condition.
A judicial investigation has been opened. Investigators are also appealing for witnesses: any person who witnessed the incident or has information that could help advance the investigation is asked to contact 113.
