Third arrest in Eschweiler home-jacking case
A 28-year-old Frenchman was captured in Phuket and returned to Luxembourg, where he is suspected of taking part in a violent burglary at the home of elderly people.
Third arrest in Eschweiler home-jacking case
Luxembourg authorities have recovered a 28-year-old man arrested in Thailand. The French national, identified as Chiranne Y., was the subject of an international arrest warrant following a violent break-in at a residence in Eschweiler on 27 October 2025.
According to accounts from the Luxemburger Wort and RTL, he was the third member of a gang, two of whom had already been apprehended by Interpol in Paris at the beginning of the year.
The break-in took place around 7.30 p.m. The burglars posed as delivery workers bringing a bouquet of flowers in order to enter the home of a retired couple. Once the door had been opened, they intimidated the occupants with a blade and a pistol, demanding 300,000 euros. The victims did not yield to this demand. The fleeing suspects left with 9,000 euros in cash, a wristwatch and electronic payment cards.
Immediately after the incident, the town of Eschweiler was secured by police officers and forensic experts. A large operation was deployed around Wiltz. The searches were called off during the night due to lack of conclusive evidence, but investigations continued until the three arrests were made.
