Father accused of repeated rape of his daughter, invoking a marabout
According to Le Quotidien, a man from Cape Verde appeared before the courts after his daughter accused him of repeated rape committed when she was only 13 years old. The defendant, who describes himself as a demanding but protective father, categorically rejects the allegations made against him.
The alleged victim filed a complaint with police in October 2021. She claims that her father used as a pretext a remedy for his insomnia, allegedly advised by a marabout, to commit the abuse.
The accused contests this version of events and puts forward another explanation: according to him, his daughter's accusations are merely a strategy to leave the family home and lead an independent life.
The young woman, for her part, maintains her statements. She explains that she remained silent for several years, paralysed by fear of reprisals and by a sense of shame.
The case thus sets against each other two radically incompatible versions: that of a daughter who says she was subjected to sexual assault in her adolescence, and that of a father who proclaims his innocence and denounces an accusation founded on a lie.
