Fenech Made Allegation that Schembri Wanted to 'Get Rid Of' Daphne Caruana Galizia – Witness in Trial
During the fourth day of the trial against Yorgen Fenech, lead investigator Keith Arnaud told the jury that Fenech made serious allegations against Keith Schembri, former head of the Prime Minister's office.

Lead investigator Keith Arnaud testified to the jury that Yorgen Fenech made an allegation that Keith Schembri, who held the position of head of the Prime Minister's office, had told him that he wanted to "get rid of" Daphne Caruana Galizia. This was revealed during the fourth day of the criminal trial against Fenech, which is still ongoing before the courts in Valletta.
According to Arnaud, the businessman told police that after returning from a trip abroad from Malta, he met with Melvin Theuma at a ranch in Żebbuġ. There, Theuma informed him that there was already a plan in place to kill the journalist, although he did not say who was behind the plan. Arnaud also said that Fenech claimed that it was his duty to "contact" about this matter at a later date.
The court also heard testimony regarding a letter known as the "frame-up" of Chris Cardona, a document that was discovered during the investigation and which was attempting to implicate the former Minister of Economy in the murder. Arnaud explained that police investigated the allegation that Alfred Degiorgio had met with Cardona at Ferdinand's Bar in Siġġiewi, and sought security camera records. However, by the time these investigations began, the records had already been destroyed.
Despite extensive investigation, the investigator told the court that police found "no evidence" that Cardona and Alfred Degiorgio ever met before they were arrested.
The trial will continue before the jury in Valletta.
