Jurors in the Yorgen Fenech murder trial have been sent to deliberate, moving the 55-day proceedings one significant step closer to a verdict.
Judge Edwina Grima concluded her address to the jury on Wednesday, having spent several days reviewing the extensive testimony and evidence accumulated over the course of the trial.
"I pray to God to help you in your decision," Grima told the jurors before formally sending them to deliberate.
Fenech stands accused of complicity and conspiring to murder investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was killed by a car bomb in October 2017. He denies all charges. A guilty verdict would carry a sentence of life imprisonment.
The jury heard evidence from numerous witnesses during the trial, including testimony from Fenech himself. Deliberations now represent the final stage before a verdict is returned to the courtroom.
