The Maltese government has called for prudence following Yorgen Fenech's acquittal over the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, warning against any action that could prejudice ongoing inquiries.

The Maltese government issued a formal statement after Yorgen Fenech was acquitted in connection with the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, urging that ongoing judicial and investigative processes must not be compromised, Lovin Malta reports.
The Criminal Court, presided over by Madam Justice Edwina Grima, delivered its judgment following the jury's verdict. Central to the government's statement was the court's decision to forward testimony heard during the trial to two ongoing magisterial inquiries.
The same testimony is also to be sent to the Commissioner of Police, who will assess whether any third parties could face criminal proceedings as a result.
Given these developments, the government repeated its call for "prudence and caution", pointing out that a specific legal time limit tied to the criminal proceedings remains active.
"Nothing should be said or done that could prejudice ongoing judicial or investigative processes," the government stated.
The administration also pledged to continue supplying Malta's institutions with the resources needed to carry out their work "fully and effectively".
The government's statement concluded with a reaffirmation of its commitment to ensuring justice is administered by the country's institutions in full accordance with the rule of law.
