Court Confirms Two-Year Prison Sentence for Cat Killer in Sliema
The Court of Appeal has confirmed the original sentence of two years imprisonment and a €15,000 fine against a 31-year-old Japanese man who admitted to killing a cat in Sliema, resisting arrest and assaulting police. The case dates back to 1 August 2025, when police arrested the man following an investigation into the killing of several cats. Security camera footage showed he was using food to attract cats before killing one of them. In addition to the prison sentence and fine, the court banned him from keeping animals for 40 years, imposed an 18-month care order and issued a protection order in favour of the police officers he had attacked. Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said welcomed the verdict, saying it sends a "clear message" that cruelty towards animals has no place in society. She expressed hope that the decree will continue to raise awareness about animal cruelty and ensure that those responsible face legal consequences. Source: Lovin Malta
