During the jury trial of Yorgen Fenech, the court heard how Daphne Caruana Galizia and one of the men who was later involved in her killing were in contact through messages.
Vince Muscat, who has already received a conviction for his role as one of the executors, repeated before the judges that George Degiorgio had been sending electronic letters to the prominent journalist in 2015. This occurred two years before the bomb that took her life outside her home in Bidnija.
According to Muscat's testimony, known better as Il-Koħħu, his colleague obtained Caruana Galizia's personal number and sent her information about various individuals. Eventually, the victim responded and proposed that they meet in person rather than continue communicating by mobile.
The convict also explained that the group was trying to find out where the journalist went, as they had not seen her for a long period.
The prosecutors believe that Fenech, a prominent businessman, was the mastermind behind the attack. He is denying all charges.
Muscat also repeated allegations about previous attempts to end the life of Caruana Galizia in 2015, which according to him were unsuccessful due to lack of payment. Those claims were denied by former Minister Chris Cardona and lawyer David Gatt.
