Agents of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted detentions on Wednesday at PESA facilities in Minsk Mazowiecki. Seven people fell into the hands of officers – three company employees and four entrepreneurs.
According to information provided by the bureau, those detained were suspected of operating within an organised corruption scheme. Investigators suspect that railway company employees accepted financial benefits in exchange for favourable decisions regarding contracts and orders.
Details of the CBA operation at PESA were described by Onet. Officers entered the company headquarters to detain individuals connected with the scheme. Interrogations of the suspects and securing of evidence are currently under way.
PESA Bydgoszcz is one of Poland's largest producers of railway rolling stock. The company has for years fulfilled orders for PKP and other carriers. So far, it has not been disclosed which specific contracts may have been the subject of arrangements between those detained.
The prosecutor's office overseeing the investigation has not yet issued a statement about charges presented. In the coming hours, decisions are expected regarding temporary arrest or the application of other precautionary measures against those detained.
