A company worker in Elbląg reported to police on Monday morning the discovery of two plastic bottles found at a gas connection to a building. Wires protruded from the bottles, and the yellow liquid filling them proved to be flammable material. The property was immediately evacuated.
A mining and pyrotechnics team from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Olsztyn and officers from the Forensic Laboratory were dispatched to the scene. According to Szymon Tarasewicz, spokesman for the Warmian-Masurian Voivode, these were "two plastic water bottles filled with yellow liquid, from which small cables protruded".
As Senior Superintendent Krzysztof Nowacki from the City Police Headquarters in Elbląg informed wiadomosci.gazeta.pl, experts will examine whether the bottles could actually have exploded or were an imitation of an explosive device. The manner in which the objects were placed—outside the gas connection, with protruding wires—suggests that it may have been a deliberate act. Police do not rule out that the aim was to cause a false alarm. An investigation is ongoing into who placed the bottles at the gas connection.
