Giertych defends Zondacrypto CEO pro bono: prosecution has secured assets to cover damages
Roman Giertych assessed that the prosecution had secured assets sufficient to cover the claims of victims of the Zondacrypto exchange. The lawyer confirmed that since May he has represented Przemysław Kral free of charge.
Giertych on Zondacrypto case: assets secured, Kral cooperates with the judiciary
According to Interia, Roman Giertych commented on Tuesday on TVP Info on the prosecution's actions against cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. "The prosecution has secured assets which, in my view, are sufficient to cover the damages of those people who have come forward," the lawyer stated.
Giertych did not disclose the specific amount, but noted that according to his knowledge the secured funds "will practically be enough to satisfy" the claims of those harmed, who lost money on Zondacrypto. He did add a caveat that not all victims have managed to come forward so far.
The lawyer confirmed that he has represented Przemysław Kral – the CEO of the exchange, against which proceedings were initiated concerning fraud and money laundering – since May of this year. He emphasised that his involvement is of a public nature and that he receives no payment from Kral.
"I decided to conduct this case pro bono, just as I conducted the case of Mr. Mraz in the Justice Fund affair, which revealed the entire fraud mechanism," Giertych recalled.
Regarding reports that Kral had been granted the status of small crown witness, the lawyer stated that "he does not wish to speak on behalf of the prosecution". He did indicate, however, that the Zondacrypto CEO is assisting law enforcement in securing assets and is thus cooperating with the judiciary.
"His motive is mitigation of his sentence. I do not rule out that some ethical reflection has also occurred," Giertych assessed.
When asked about Kral's current location, the lawyer answered that this information is covered by the secrecy of proceedings. He added only that – as far as he is aware – his client is not staying in Sicily.
