During the search, valuable items were seized, including watches, as well as documentation concerning Zondacrypto's activities. After the proceedings are completed, the man is to be brought to the prosecutor's office.
Since 2019, the prosecution has been bringing charges against Roman Ż. of directing an organised criminal group and money laundering of 28 million złoty through BitBay accounts. Journalists from Wirtualna Polska and tvn24.pl were the first to report the detention, citing unofficially Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek.
On Friday, the court granted a request for the remand in custody of three other people detained in this case – Anna P., Jaromiry W., and Rafał Z. In August, the proceedings were merged with the case of the disappearance of Sylwester Suszka, who vanished in March 2022 – he was last seen at a petrol station belonging to Marian W., known as "Maniek".
As part of the same investigation, the president of the Polish Olympic Committee, Radosław Piesiewicz, was also detained and remanded in custody. He was charged with paid protection and satisfying a group of creditors to the detriment of other parties in connection with the exchange facing insolvency. Piesiewicz denied his guilt.
