Priest from Radom in court for murder of homeless acquaintance
According to Google News PL, the first hearing in the case of a priest accused of murder with particular cruelty has been scheduled for 7 October. The accused – vicar Mirosław M. – will be brought to the Regional Court in Radom from the detention centre where he has been held since July of last year.
The victim, Anatol C., had known the priest for over 25 years. More than a decade earlier, he had given him land in exchange for lifelong care and providing a roof over his head. Mirosław M. accepted the gift, but failed to keep his promise. In 2025, Anatol C. was accusing the priest of having nowhere to live and sleeping in homeless shelters.
The crime took place in July 2025. According to the investigation, an argument broke out between the men during a joint car journey. The priest stopped the vehicle, took an axe from the boot and struck the victim on the head. He then poured petrol on Anatol C., set him alight and drove away. The charge of murder with particular cruelty stems from investigators' finding that the victim was still alive at the moment of being set on fire.
Mirosław M. was apprehended on the grounds of his parish. He admitted to the crime, provided detailed explanations and expressed remorse. During the prosecution investigation, he was subjected to psychiatric observation – the experts found no signs of mental illness and considered him to be fully responsible.
The prosecution also charged him with an earlier attempted murder. Three weeks before the fatal attack, the vicar stopped his car on a country road and ordered Anatol C. to check the engine. As the man bent down, he dealt him a heavy blow to the head. Because a tractor driver appeared in the vicinity, the priest drove the injured man to the vicarage and called an ambulance, claiming that the victim had accidentally hit himself with the car's rear flap.
A procedural experiment conducted by the prosecutor ruled out that version of events. Investigators suspect that Mirosław M. already used the axe on that occasion, which he carried in his boot, and later used the same weapon to commit the murder.
