Mother of suspect in Mława Mai murder case faces charges after attack on police officer

Charges against Bartosz G.'s mother following incident during house search
Katarzyna G., 47-year-old mother of Bartosz G. — suspected of the brutal murder of 16-year-old Mai Kowalska from Mława — has been charged with two criminal offences following an incident that occurred on Tuesday, 22 September. According to fakt.pl, during a search of her home the woman attacked one of the police officers.
Mazovian police announced the charges on Wednesday, 23 September, in the afternoon. In a statement published on platform X, it was indicated that Katarzyna G. has been charged with assault on an officer and insulting him. Following procedural actions, the woman was released.
Prosecutor Bartosz Maliszewski from the District Prosecutor's Office in Płock stressed that the detention was unforeseen. "This detention was entirely incidental and unforeseen," the prosecutor told fakt.pl. During investigative proceedings, the 47-year-old reportedly struggled with police officers, attempted to bite them and tried to barricade herself in one of the rooms.
House search in connection with incitement to murder
The search of Katarzyna G.'s home took place in connection with an investigation into incitement to murder. On Sunday, 20 September, Polsat News published a conversation with a former cellmate of Bartosz G. from a prison in Greece. The man told journalists that Katarzyna G. had allegedly commissioned him to kill three people seeking to punish her son: the father of the murdered teenager Jarosław Kowalski, the lawyer representing Mai's family Wojciech Kasprzyk, and a third person whose identity could not be established.
Crime considered one of the most brutal in recent years
The murder of 16-year-old Mai Kowalska from Mława shocked the public. On 23 April 2025, the girl left home to meet with Bartosz G., assuring her parents she would return within 30 minutes. She did not return that day or the next. The battered body of the teenager was found several days later, abandoned in bushes.
Suspicion immediately fell on Bartosz G., who was a year older. The teenager was detained in Greece, where he had travelled in the meantime on a school exchange. After several months, he was brought back to Poland, where he was charged with murder with particular cruelty. He refused to give a statement, citing lack of memory.
Investigators have footage from surveillance cameras at Bartosz G.'s mother's premises, recovered after it was deleted. Tomasz Patora, a journalist from the TVN Uwagi! programme, has reviewed the recording.
"In the footage, you can see Bartek dragging Mai by the hair along the ground, from the direction of the house towards the back of the yard. The boy is wearing only underpants, Mai is naked, her hands are bound with plastic ties and she appears completely limp. Then Bartek leaves the frame and returns with a stick, with which he starts hitting Mai on the head," Patora reported in the programme broadcast in early September.
From his account, it also emerged that Mai attempted to defend herself against the blows, but without success. Bartosz allegedly also beat her with a spade, then placed her body in a rubbish bin and attempted to burn it with a gas torch. The motive for the crime remains unknown to this day.
