Polish police have detained a Slovak citizen suspected of involvement in an international smuggling network. The man was extradited from Switzerland and is being held in custody in Katowice.

Polish police announced on Thursday the detention of a Slovak citizen suspected of involvement in an international drug trafficking network. He faces up to 20 years in prison for these offences. The man was arrested in Switzerland and in November extradited to Poland, where his investigation continues in custody. The information was provided by the Warsaw correspondent of TASR based on a police statement.
Following extradition to Poland in November 2025, the prosecutor's office in Katowice filed a motion to the court for the suspect's arrest. The detention of Michał D. is connected to an investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police (CBŚP) under the supervision of the Katowice prosecutor's office, which concerns an organised smuggling group trafficking large quantities of narcotics and laundering proceeds from crime.
Investigators accuse him of involvement in the smuggling of 115 kilograms of ketamine. According to their findings, he used a Polish company, in which he was the sole member of the board of directors, for financial transactions related to illegal activity.
In September 2023 he deposited 25,000 euros into an account, which almost immediately went to the account of a Hungarian company as payment for cosmetics with ketamine hidden inside. Later he paid over 2,000 euros for the rental of a warehouse where narcotics were stored. Police officers during a search in October 2023 seized a significant quantity of the substance at that location.
During the investigation, authorities have not ruled out further arrests.
