Fatal beating of fan in Nowa Huta – three suspects fled abroad
Krakow police established a special investigative task force regarding the death of a 36-year-old Hutnik fan. According to ESKA radio, three individuals fled Poland and are hiding in southern Europe.
Special task force searches for perpetrators of death of "Yankes" from Krakow
The Provincial Police Commander in Krakow established a special operational task force tasked with apprehending individuals responsible for the fatal beating of a 36-year-old man on Willowy estate in Nowa Huta. The incident occurred during the night of Thursday to Friday. According to Google News PL, the team comprises experienced officers from the provincial and city police commands in Krakow, as well as officers from the Central Investigation Bureau of Police and the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime.
Officers have already managed to establish the identities of all persons who directly participated in the beating. Efforts are underway to determine their whereabouts. ESKA radio unofficially reported that three of the suspects left Poland and are likely hiding in southern Europe.
Arrests and earlier proceedings
On Monday, Krakow police detained two men suspected of involvement in the Nowa Huta incident. Simultaneously, the matter was transferred from the city police command to the oversight of the provincial command. Earlier, nine other persons connected with the supporter community were detained and questioned – all were released due to lack of evidence of direct participation in the beating. The proceedings are being conducted under the supervision of the prosecution.
The victim, known in the supporter community as "Yankes", was a fan of Hutnik Kraków and a member of the club's boxing section. CCTV footage from the scene confirmed that the man was attacked by a group of several individuals. A passer-by found the 36-year-old unconscious; the injured man died in an ambulance. Prosecutor Mariusz Boroń from the District Prosecutor's Office in Krakow presented this information during a press conference on Sunday.
According to journalist Jarosław Sidorowicz publishing on Wyborcza.pl, the attack was likely a result of a settling of accounts within the pseudo-supporter community.
Wisła Kraków issued a statement
Football club TS Wisła Kraków S.A. published a statement on its website in connection with comments appearing in the public domain suggesting the involvement of persons identified with Wisła in the tragic incident. "TS Wisła Kraków S.A. Football Club firmly condemns all acts of violence and aggression" – the communication states. Wisła also emphasised that it opposes the automatic association of the club and its community with the actions of specific individuals. "Violence has nothing to do with supporting" – the statement emphasised.
