A couple who owned Quintinha da Conceição in Maia have been sentenced to four and a half years in prison with the sentence suspended, for defrauding two vulnerable residents aged 87 and 90, taking almost 200,000 euros and a property from them.

Matosinhos Court has sentenced two owners of an elderly care facility in Maia to sentences of four years and six months in prison, suspended. The decision concerns the deception of two extremely vulnerable residents, a woman aged 87 and a man aged 90, from whom they took almost 200,000 euros and an apartment.
The facts date back to 2017. The couple, who ran Quintinha da Conceição, exploited the physical and psychological deterioration of the victims to persuade them to transfer large sums of money and to cede ownership of their property. The court had no doubt that the two elderly people were victims of qualified fraud.
In addition to the suspended prison sentences for the two defendants, the establishment was fined 48,000 euros. The court also determined that the three defendants — the couple and the institution — return to the State the amount of approximately 200,000 euros, corresponding to the sum illegally obtained.
