The Judicial Police have arrested a 60-year-old man in Sertã, more than two years after he murdered an octogenarian by strangulation in the Olivais area of Lisbon. The motive for the crime was related to substantial losses from online betting.

The Judicial Police have arrested a 60-year-old individual in the locality of Sertã, municipality of Castelo Branco. The arrest took place more than two years after the suspect murdered an 87-year-old man by strangulation in the Olivais area of Lisbon.
The detainee had previous criminal records for crimes of violence and robberies against elderly people. According to the investigation, the killer sought to obtain money to compensate for losses of several thousand euros resulting from internet betting.
PJ inspectors located the suspect in Sertã, where he had been living since committing the crime. The operation culminated in his capture, ending more than two years of flight.
