Ten individuals will serve time in custody, with sentences ranging between six years and a decade, for being part of a distribution network for prohibited substances in Portalegre district. In total, nineteen people were punished by the court in that jurisdiction.

The sentence was read on Tuesday and made public on Wednesday through a statement from the local Public Prosecutor's Office, published on its website.

Beyond the ten who received immediate convictions for qualified trafficking, three others were sentenced to five years but will remain free on condition of complying with rules imposed by the judge. One defendant was penalised with four years and five months, also with suspension of the sentence, whilst five additional individuals were found guilty of a less serious offence, with sentences between fourteen months and twenty-two months, also non-custodial.

The magistrate also ordered the handing over to the public purse of 37,134.55 euros, a sum corresponding to assets of illicit origin detected in the property of one of the convicted persons.

It was established that the group operated in an organised manner in the purchase and resale of narcotics, with activity documented from at least 2020.
