Prosecutor-General confirms ongoing investigation into Luís Neves
The Prosecutor-General of the Republic, Amadeu Guerra, declared on Thursday that the two most significant inquiries involving the Minister for Internal Administration, Luís Neves, were classified as "of an urgent nature" and proceeded during the judicial recess. According to Público, the statements were made in Évora, on the sidelines of a meeting with journalists.
"The processes are under investigation, most of them, the two most important ones, we considered of an urgent nature. Therefore, they were processed and handled during the judicial recess. They were not stalled," Guerra stated.
The two processes in question concern the trailer case and the constructions in Alentejo. A third inquiry, relating to Luís Neves's house in Odemira, is being handled by the Administrative Court of Beja.
As regards the conduct of the main investigation, the Prosecutor-General clarified that "with respect to the trailer process, the Public Ministry decided to assume the handling of the process, requesting elements it could request", adding that the collaboration of criminal police bodies will be sought when necessary.
Amadeu Guerra acknowledged that there is no concrete timeframe for the conclusion of the processes, but guaranteed that efforts are being made for them to "end as quickly as possible". The official also stressed that the inquiry "is proceeding like any other" and that "all people, regardless of their situation and positions", are investigated in the same way.
