Businessman from 'Rolex gang' sentenced to four years for fraud of 1.2 million euros
The man involved in the death of a Rolex gang member in Lisbon has been sentenced for defrauding doctor Fernando Póvoas of 1.2 million euros. The four-year sentence is suspended.
Defendant pretended to be friends with Isabel dos Santos to deceive doctor out of 1.2 million euros
The businessman involved in the fatal hit-and-run of a Rolex gang member that occurred last week in Lisbon was sentenced in July for fraud against doctor Fernando Póvoas in the amount of 1.2 million euros, according to Correio da Manhã.
The defendant, known by the alias 'Suíço', received a four-year prison sentence, suspended for five years. The suspension is conditional on payment of 50,000 euros to the victim.
It was proven in court that the businessman pretended to be a close friend of businesswoman Isabel dos Santos and Angola's Minister of Industry, using these alleged connections to deceive the victim. Fernando Póvoas ended up losing 1.2 million euros in the scheme.
The defendant announced that he will appeal the decision. "It is an injustice, I was only convicted because he is famous," he declared.
