The trial of former clergyman Humberto Gama continues at Vila Real Court, with the proceedings expected to extend over the following months. The 86-year-old man is charged with crimes of rape, fraud and usurpation of functions, with the rape allegation being the most serious of the charges.
Recently, new evidence has been incorporated into the case, notably digital discs recording exorcism sessions carried out by the defendant. These materials are to be analysed before the hearing of the defence witnesses begins. The analysis of these recordings is intended to clarify the behaviour of the former priest in the consulting room where a woman alleges she was raped.
Upon leaving the courthouse, the defendant again denied all accusations. He guaranteed that, when the case comes to an end, he will reveal "all the truth", adding that what has been said in court "is not worth anything" and that people "are making things up". The former priest stated he has no knowledge whatsoever of the woman accusing him, considering it "would be a miracle, a man over 80 years old dishonoring a virgin".
