Remand in custody in Cascais for domestic violence against 72-year-old mother

Google News PT — Crime reports that a 30-year-old man has been remanded in custody on suspicion of domestic violence against his mother, aged 72, in São Domingos de Rana, in the municipality of Cascais. The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP (Cometlis) confirmed the detention on Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday following arrest warrants issued by the judicial authority. According to the PSP, the man, a habitual user of narcotic substances and without paid professional activity, demanded money from his mother to finance his drug consumption. When the elderly woman refused, he would threaten, insult and physically assault her.

The man had previously been arrested on 23 April and subjected to restraining measures, namely a prohibition on contact with the victim, removal from his mother's residence and an obligation to maintain a minimum distance of 500 metres.

The measures were not complied with. According to the PSP, the suspect entered his mother's home and refused to leave, resuming the same behaviour. "In one incident, after the victim refused to give money to the suspect, he insulted her and threatened her with death, then pushed her with his hands with great force, causing her to strike the furniture in the home and leaving her in considerable pain," Cometlis described in a statement.
