Man detained in Cascais for domestic violence against mother to finance drug use
A 30-year-old man was remanded in custody after being detained on suspicion of domestic violence against his mother, aged 72, in São Domingos de Rana, in the municipality of Cascais. The Metropolitan Police Command of Lisbon (Cometlis) announced the detention on Tuesday.
According to Google News PT — Crime (pt), Cometlis indicated that the detention occurred on Thursday, following arrest warrants issued by the judicial authority. The suspect, a habitual drug user with no paid employment, demanded money from his mother to sustain his addiction and, when refused, would threaten her, insult her and assault her physically.
The man had been detained for the first time on 23 April, at which point he was made subject to restraining measures that included a ban on contact with the victim, a requirement to keep away from his mother's residence and a prohibition on approaching within 500 metres.
He complied with none of these obligations. The PSP reports that the suspect entered his mother's house, refused to leave and maintained the same pattern of financial pressure. In one incident, after the victim refused the money he demanded, the man insulted her, threatened to kill her and pushed her forcefully, causing her to hit furniture and sustaining considerable pain.
