An individual aged 31 was taken into custody in Castelo Branco municipality by officers of the Guarda Nacional Republicana, following an investigation that extended over approximately two years. The operation involved personnel from the territorial posts of Castelo Branco and Idanha-a-Nova.
According to the security force, the detainee was conducting his activity in an organised manner, selling cocaine, MDMA, LSD, hashish and other narcotic substances directly to users, whilst also supplying other distributors in the Castelo Branco municipality region.
The illicit activity was concentrated in densely populated urban areas and in spaces frequented by young people. The suspect exploited the vulnerability of this age group to recruit new clients and expand his network, as indicated by the GNR in a statement cited by Reconquista.pt.
During the operation, the authorities confiscated 574 units of hashish, 232 units of ecstasy, 195 units of cocaine, 33 units of amphetamines, 29 units of MDMA, three units of marijuana and 19 tabs of LSD.
In addition to the drugs, two mobile phones, two precision digital scales, 247 euros in cash and various items used in the preparation, packaging, cultivation and consumption of narcotic drugs were seized.
The defendant was brought before Castelo Branco District Court for first-instance interrogation, and the criminal instruction judge decreed the most serious coercive measure. The man was transferred to Castelo Branco Prison.
