The PSP in Vila Franca de Xira arrested a 40-year-old man, already known for previous episodes of domestic violence against family members, after he threatened to kill his own mother and brother.

The events took place on 1 July, when witnesses alerted the authorities to a disturbance in the street. When police vehicles arrived at the scene, the aggressor's mother was calling for help, explaining that her son had just forced his way into the family home.

According to the victim's account, the man not only physically assaulted his brother, but also caused several material damages inside the house. He then took refuge in his own residence and locked himself inside. With authorisation to enter, PSP officers broke down the door, but the suspect managed to escape through the back of the building.

Shortly afterwards, the aggressor returned to the scene and directed death threats against the family members. He was then captured in flagrante delicto by the police.

Brought before the court, the defendant was held in preventive custody, the most severe coercive measure provided for in Portuguese law.
