Man arrested in Guimarães for repeated sexual abuse of underage stepdaughter

The Judicial Police arrested a 44-year-old man in Guimarães on suspicion of aggravated child sexual abuse and sexual abuse of a dependent or vulnerable minor, offences allegedly committed against his stepdaughter. The case was reported by Correio da Manhã.

The victim was 13 years old when the sexual acts began. The abuse continued until May 2025, when the minor was 16 years old.

The investigation was launched after the victim herself filed a complaint with the GNR, which immediately informed the Judicial Police of the facts. During the investigation, evidence deemed sufficiently strong was gathered to determine the suspect's removal from the family home.

Despite this removal measure, authorities recently discovered that the man had returned to the residence and was again living with the minor. In response to this violation, the Public Prosecution Service, through the DIAP of Guimarães, issued an arrest warrant for the protection of the victim.

The suspect was arrested at the victim's home and awaits presentation before the Judicial Court of Guimarães for interrogation and the application of restraining measures.
