A 46-year-old man was remanded in custody after being detained by the PJ on suspicion of sexual abuse and mistreatment of his daughter and stepdaughter, aged 4 and 9, in Castro Verde.
Suspect sent to Beja Prison Establishment after initial court hearing
According to radiovidigueira.pt, a 46-year-old man detained on Wednesday by the Judicial Police (PJ) in the municipality of Castro Verde was remanded in custody following his appearance before the Judicial Court of Almodôvar for an initial court hearing.
The court imposed the most serious measure of constraint. The suspect was subsequently taken to Beja Prison Establishment, where he will await the progress of the case.
The PJ stated in a statement that the abusive behaviour occurred "in an environment under the total control of the suspect, specifically inside the common residence of the family household, comprised of the now detained man, his spouse and the two minor victims — the stepdaughter of nine years and the daughter of four".
According to the same source, "the sexual assaults ceased following the intervention of the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People, activated as a result of abuse reports shared by one of the minors in a school environment".
