Arrested at the exit of a family member's wedding in Gondomar
A 23-year-old man was arrested by the PSP on Tuesday at the exit of a notarial registry office in S. Cosme, Gondomar, where he was attending the wedding of a close family member. The purpose of the arrest was to enforce an effective prison sentence of four years and nine months for drug trafficking, as reported by Correio da Manhã.
The conviction resulted from a police operation carried out in 2024 in the Pinheiro Torres neighbourhood in Porto. At the time, the PSP intercepted four men caught red-handed, aged between 21 and 46 years. "The suspects were at the time intercepted caught red-handed, which gave legitimacy to a house search, which resulted in the seizure of several objects, a substantial amount of money and drug material, which constituted irrefutable evidence", the PSP stated in a statement.
Located after a period of surveillance
Tuesday's arrest was conducted by the Gondomar Police Division, through the Police Inspection Brigade and the Police Investigation and Inspection Squad. According to the PSP, a series of investigations made it possible to locate the suspect at the notarial registry office, where he was participating in the wedding ceremony. The man's presence was confirmed after a period of surveillance by police officers who, "at the exit of the event, intercepted and arrested the subject to serve the sentence", adds the PSP statement.
The detainee was subsequently transported, without incident, to Porto Prison, in Custóias, Matosinhos.
